Jake Evans
Originally from the Wirral (Merseyside), Jake (he/she/they) started performing at a community youth theatre when he was 17 before moving to Leeds to complete both his BPA and MA degrees at Northern School of Contemporary Dance. It was here that he took part in a student exchange with University of Utah in the US, and went on to tour the UK and Europe with the postgraduate company Verve. During this time he worked with Angus Balbernie, Odette Hughes, Rod Dixon, Dam van Huyn, Anton Lachky, Efrosini Protopapa and Athina Vahla.
Since then Jake has gone on to further tour the UK and make work for stage & film with choreographers such as Gary Clarke, Charlotte Vincent, Aletta Collins, Tommy Smalls, Mickael Marso Riviere, Sean Stakim, Joseph Reay-Reid, Josh Hawkins, Lauren Tucker, Gary Rowntree, and Sam Burkett. He has also worked for Royal Shakespeare Company and Opera North. Jake has extensive experience teaching and leading workshops with undergraduate, college, and secondary level students of mixed abilities at institutions throughout the UK. He has also lead company auditions in London and Dundee. His 2019 showreel can be viewed here.
Jake often likes to use text, poetry, physical theatre and acting when he is working. In his own creative practice he explores themes relating to queer identities, and the construction & performance of the self both on stage and in society. His interest in queer identity and gender politics is further explored through his work as a drag artist. He is based in Manchester.
Most recently, Jake completed the Spring 2023 re-tour of WASTELAND (Gary Clarke Company), and the creation & performances of Small Town Boys (Shaper/Caper) during Summer 2023.
